You need a business license if you have a personal services business, a food truck (commercial refreshment vehicle), a salvage yard, a kennel or if you require a transient trader license.

Personal services licence

A personal services license is required if your business provides personal care for any part of the body and may include: 

  • Acupuncture
  • Hair cutting
  • Manicuring and nail treatments
  • Electrolysis
  • Aesthetics
  • Tattooing or micro-pigmentation
  • Body and ear piercing

If you’re a personal services business owner, you’ll also need to submit a copy of your Regional Health Inspection along with the completed application.

Notification to Public Health

Six business categories are required or recommended to notify Halton Region Public Health whenever they open or reopen their premises to the public or undertake renovations.

To make it simpler and easier for business owners or operators who are required to notify Halton Region Public Health when they are planning to open to the public, reopen (seasonal), undergo renovations or change in operation and/or services provided to the public to notify Public Health, Halton Region has launched a new online notification form. If you are unable to submit this online form, please contact 311 and ask to speak to a Public Health Inspector.

Kennel licence

Kennel licenses are required if you are boarding, breeding or training more than three dogs or five cats.  Drop off your business licence application at Town Hall, located at 150 Mary St. in Milton.

Salvage yard licence 

A salvage yard license is required when motor vehicle parts are stored or re-sold, and/or where used equipment, used appliances, scrap material and salvage for the purposes of wrecking, dismantling or salvaging parts thereof for sale or other disposal are stored or re-sold, and shall include an automobile wrecking yard.
